The history of glider mail in Switzerland is quite brief. In 1933, the first trans-alpine glider flight was attempted from Zürich to Milan. Due to the weight of the mail being carried in the glider, it was unable to disconnect from the tow plane. After landing in Bellinzona, the mail was transferred to the motorized plane for carriage to Milan.

In 1935, the First International Glider Meeting took place in the Berner Oberland with a number of flights scheduled to depart from the Jungfraujoch. Due to adverse weather conditions, the flight to Meiringen, below, was delayed by one day.
