Beginning in 1911, the Swiss PTT provided special stamps for use by charitable institutions, hospitals, and other non-profit organizations. From 1911 to 1934 these issues were similar to contemporary postage due stamps but with P.P. (indicating Port Paye, postage paid) on each side of the value and a black numeral overprint indicating to which organization these stamps had been provided. In 1935, specially designed stamps were issued. In 1943 the supply of these stamps was discontinued although they remained valid for postage until 1945.
