Coils

Beginning in 1909, the Swiss PTT began issuing definitive stamps in coil format so that they could be dispensed by automatic vending machines. Unlike coils of the United States, Swiss coil stamps are perforated on all four sides. Modern issues bear control numbers on the reverse of each fifth stamp.
